I teared up multiple times while watching Diane Sawyer’s story about Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ recovery since being shot in the head last January — when they aired the first home video clip of her in the hospital, when her husband said that this is what those “sickness and health” vows really mean, when her mother sang “Tomorrow” — but then this line from Diane Sawyer at the end of the broadcast, about Giffords and Kelly’s new memoir, really got me:

“The book is about that — the courage you need when the life you live is not the life you planned, and you learn there have to be many definitions of a beautiful day.”

It’s not always easy to find that courage, but it’s important to keep looking.
